Lombardy grants biotech

Cell factoryMolMed leads a consortium which awarded a € 1.4 million grant by Regione Lombardia for the optimisation of TK therapy manufacturing process.
MolMed S.p.A., a medical biotechnology company focused on the development of novel anticancer therapeutics, announces that the company is leader of a consortium that has been awarded a grant of € 1.4 million by Regione Lombardia for a € 2.2 million R&D project aimed at developing an innovative, automated manufacturing process for its cell-based therapy TK, that is currently in Phase III for high-risk leukaemias.

The project was submitted within a call of the plan by Regione Lombardia for the promotion of excellence in its industrial areas (known as Metadistretti). The grant is non-refundable and will partially cover R&D expenses of the project over a 36 month period. MolMed’s partners in the consortium are areta international S.r.l. and Datamed S.r.l. MolMed will lead the project for the development of an automated closed system for the manufacturing of TK, which consists of patientspecific genetically engineered cells. Datamed will be responsible for design and optimisation of the system modules and related engineering work. areta will contribute to the project by developing and implementing an optimised production and purification process for the monoclonal antibody used for the selection of engineered cells.
