Advanced therapy medicinal products differ from conventional medicines in that they are based on genes and cells. They offer new treatment opportunities for many diseases and injuries. There are three types of advanced therapies defined by the European Regulation 1394/2007: somatic cell therapy, gene therapy and tissue engineering. Gene therapy products are used to treat genetic diseases. Many of these products work by inserting genes into cells. Somatic cell therapy products contain cells or tissues that have been manipulated to change their biological characteristics. They can be used to cure, diagnose or prevent diseases. areta is authorized by the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) which operates under the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to provide its clients manufacturing services, quality control and in-house batch release of products for advanced therapies. |
